Fire In The Disco invites Systematic w/ Technasia & Marc Romboy

Header
Kerstavond gaat vlammen

Fire In The Disco belooft zo een enerverende kerstavond.

Album Release: Francesco Pico - Absolutely Flabbergasted

Flabbergasted
Top Dutch producer Francesco Pico is back and ready to knock your socks off. Absolutely Flabbergasted is out from today on Manual Music. Every bit as surprising and exciting as the title suggests, this is an excellent chance to experience a true student of musical narrative at the top of his game.

The release is Francesco Pico's third full-length album, following 2007's Imagining Sounds (Extrema Music) and 2009's Imagining Sounds 2 (Outside The Box Music). Absolutely Flabbergasted takes Pico into previously unexplored territory, and it feels as though he has broadened his list of musical influences considerably.

To be flabbergasted means to be left speechless. It's certainly the case that you'll be far too busy enjoying the music to want to utter a word. A casual listen reveals a deftly executed progressive mix, yet there's so much more at play beneath the surface. Especially nice is the introspective exhale of Absolute Breakdown and the subsequent segue into title track Absolutely Flabbergasted, which teems with densely layered polyrhythms.

It's hard to identify favourite tracks when part of what makes the album so outstanding is their relationships with one another, which feel as natural as breathing in and out. Pico's collaboration with Royal Sapien, another genre-buster, on You Changed My Way has clearly paid dividends though, as has a willingness to explore some more playful beats on Orphan Up Your Guard.

Absolutely Flabbergasted is Francesco Pico's first album release on Manual Music, following on with a single release The Confusion Grows last year and several remixes.

He has also released and remixed tracks for labels including Global Underground, AudioTherapy, Urbantorque, Extrema, Outside The Box, Proton and his own label Magnitude Recordings. Tracks are supported by multiple big-name DJs such as Sasha, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Jimmy v M and Laurent Garnier. Pico also presents a slew of radio shows including spots on Proton Radio and 3FM.

Tracklist
01. Absolute Intro
02. Mad Crazy Fun
03. Orphan Up Your Guard
04. Klaas Vaag
05. The Fantastic Five

APE Magazine in the race for Digital Magazine Award

Apelogo

This week Dutch APE Magazine has been officially nominated for a Digital Magazine Award. The bilingual online dance music magazine is finalist in category 'Magazine Launch of the Year', or 'best newcomer'. Quite an achievement looking at the other finalists, mainly titles from big, international publishers like Virgin Interactive Publishing, Aol Inc and Future Publishing. And a clear sign also small players like APE Magazine can think revolutionary.

Because it surely was something special when APE Magazine went from print to online, end 2010. In a time where many titles cling to their paper versions, this Dutch dance music magazine took the gamble to from now on only appear completely digital.

With the interviews and features about electronic music and nightlife from this moment being published in Dutch as well as English the magazine also saw its audience grow to worldwide proportions. The collaboration with Public Revolution, the makers of APE Magazine's online editor,  had led to a beautiful and utter succesfull product.

Getting nominated for a Digital Magazine Award (DMA) is therefore well-earned, but still unique. The DMAs are namely an international contest for online magazines represented by just about all major titles. Last year alone there were already entries from 31 countries, considering the growth of online media this number has only risen by now.

Not for nothing the jury at DMA 2011 consists out of a hotlist from the (online) media industry. From the vice-president at CNN International Digital and the chairman of Thomson Reuters China to an editor from the New York Times and the founder of BBC News Online.

DMA 2011's winners will be announced during a grand event in London, Wednesday 14th December. Of course a night APE Magazine, as a small newcomer, eagerly awaits. Although Riel, the magazine's founder and publisher, has already said not to expect too much of it; getting nominated for this award is already more than enough recognition for the work that's been done this past year.

Look for all information concerning DMA 2011 on: www.digitalmagazineawards.com. Read APE Magazine's latest issue on www.apemagazine.com or download the free app in the Apple Appstore.

Nic Fanciulli & Fire In The Disco presents: Saved - Studio 80 ADE Opening Party

Saved
Since tearing up ADE last time around, Saved Records have enjoyed their best year to date. Alongside multiple standout releases from the likes of Nic Fanciulli & Stacey Pullen, Jordan Peak, Gary Beck, Leon and Ross Evana, the UK based imprint has also turned out two corking new artist albums. After Steve Mac's debut LP, Roots dropped to much critical acclaim, Spencer Parker took to the full length format with his excellent A Gun For Hire. As summer drew to a close, the Saved crew branched out once again and devised the first ever Saved Weekender, building on the success of a remarkable WMC party and a huge worldwide tour to stage their own weekend long event, welcoming performances from John Digweed, Marco Carola, Adam Beyer and Guy J alongside a host of Saved's close family and friends at the label's Maidstone home over the August bank holiday.

Now enlisted to open Studio 80's ADE 2011 proceedings, Saved will be coming stronger than ever with a finely selected group of the label's finest talent in-toe. The night will also feature a never been done before, groundbreaking 3 way b2b performance from label boss Nic Fanciulli, Detroit legend Stacey Pullen and the UK's new generation star Tim Green. Nic and Stacey worked together in the studio on their rolling anthem Limmo whilst all three have played at the same Saved parties in the past, rocking it every time. This time, the three will put their talents together for a special, one-off DJ-ing master class; the Saved way.

Alongside that special performance in the Dutch capital, Glaswegian Gary Beck will be on board to deliver some straight up techno sounds. Alongside him will be performances from East London based Alex Tepper and Mark Fanciulli who will play the party fresh from the huge success of The Tide out on Joris Voorn's Rejected imprint. Put simply, there is no better place to kick start your ADE and get things going with a bang than by heading down to Studio 80 for a night of the finest in house and techno courtesy of Saved Records.

British producer Tim Mason has been catapulted to the top of the House music scene over the past few months. The Brighton-based DJ was responsible for producing one of the biggest bangers of the year The Moment, as well as releasing absolutely huge remixes for tracks such as Alex Metric and Steve Angello's Open Your Eyes or Lucid's I Can't Help Myself. With more great releases coming up such as his remix for Red Hot Chili Peppers' almighty classic The Otherside or the Tiesto-supported Anima, it seems like there is no stopping Tim Mason.

Nicky Romero is one of Holland's finest talents to break through in recent years. Featuring in the sets of the likes of Tiesto, Fedde Le Grand, David Guetta and Sander Van Doorn, Nicky is one of the most sought after producers and remixers on the planet today. Labels like Toolroom, Hed Kandi, Peppermint Jam, Polydor, Positiva, Additive, Stealth, BMG, Black Hole, Virgin, Boxed and more have picked up his musical outings. With his constant love affair with the dancefloor, it's no wonder he's shared stages around the world with the likes of Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo, Seamus Haji, Tiesto, Carl Cox and many others. The label night will be opened by Norman Soares. This DJ and percussionist is also the driving force behind the acclaimed Star Beach parties in Chersonissos.

Systematic Colours Volume Three Mixed by Phonique

Systematic_colours_volume_three_mixed_by_phonique
Systematic Colours Volume Three mixed by Phonique is a not-to-be missed snapshot of Marc Romboy's vision for his record label, Systematic Recordings. Mixing classic releases with newer material, it is an opportunity to revisit some memories and to look to the future.

Taking the reins for the third in the series is Phonique. He deftly stitches the compilation together, blending tracks with a very nice effect. Phonique is an international performer who regularly spins in Brazil as well as playing a regular spot at Panorama Bar in Berlin.

The vibe in the early moments of the album is very much deep house. This is not Systematic's most typical genre, but a firm Phonique favourite as he has won several awards for the style. Spirit Catcher's Frequent Traveller is a case in point. As the album progresses, things become warmer and by the time track 5 drops, F.E.X's Hedonism, there has been a palpable shift in mood.

It is intelligent mixing and is reminiscent of Phonique's club sets. By starting deep he gives a neat context to some of Systematic's more recognisable tunes, making them appear even more special than they would on their own.

Something immediately noticeable is the broad range of instruments it is possible to pick out. Check out the muted trumpet on Audio Soul Project's Traditionalist. Or the reedy sounds on Pharaoh by Dimitri Andreas, which by the way is as evocative of ancient Egypt as is possible for a dance tune to be.

It's refreshing to see Phonique thinking outside the box with tunes like these. It adds depth to the mix and gives Systematic Colours Volume Three a jazzy feel that is incredibly enjoyable.

Marc Romboy features heavily which is no surprise but always a pleasure. A highlight is the popular Couleur de L'Espoir by Rodriguez Jr. vs. Marc Romboy. Bass-heavy, Detroit inspired and totally tasty. The album's final moments yield some straightforward-yet-spacey tech house courtesy of Romboy and Stephan Bodzin's 2010 smash Triton, still sounding fresh a year down the pipes.

Overall, Systematic Colours Volume Three flies the flag incredibly well for Systematic Recordings. It's an accessible delight that will please both the casual listener and those with a more vested interest in the label's releases alike.

Systematic Colours Volume Three mixed by Phonique is out from today on Systematic Recordings and available on www.beatport.com and all other online music retailers.

InterLab Sessions presents: Bla Bla / Alchemy / Remote Area (ADE Showcase)

Interlab_sessions_presents_bla_bla_alchemy_remote_area_ade_showcase
Fans of sophisticated electronic beats rejoice! Three powerhouse dance labels are joining forces for an official Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) showcase aboard the Pure-liner party boat.

Dutch labels Bla Bla Records and Remote Area are joined by Alchemy, coming to ADE from Italy. The first time the three labels have worked together on an event, it will be 'like a trip into a different dimension,' promises Alchemy label head Mauro Picotto.

Taking place on Saturday October 22nd, the last official day of ADE, the showcase is the perfect way to bid a fond farewell to one of the music industries most important and exciting yearly events.

The line-up is stellar: Mauro Picotto; Remote Area's 2000 and One and Bla Bla label owner Daniel Sanchez. Mulder also join from the Bla Bla imprint alongside El Mundo & Satori (live) and Bas Amro.

Mauro Picotto is fresh from organising the first Alchemy Music Festival and the release of new album TwentyEleven. He is rumoured to be dropping some brand new productions for ADE - reason in itself to be in attendance.

Remote Area's 2000 and One, has been a consistent and vital figure in the electronic scene since the 1980s. Defined by both his vision and versatility, he integrates seamlessly in the tech, house and tech-house scenes.

Bla Bla label owner and techno 'bad boy' Daniel Sanchez is a key figure in Amsterdam's minimal and techno scene. He brings with him some of his label's hottest talent, proving that Bla Bla Records remains a crucial imprint to watch.

The night is hosted by Dutch dance consultancy Interlab Music. They are returning to ADE with the Pure-liner party boat for a second year to show off their innovative Interlab Sessions showcase format.

The Pure-liner is a cruising event venue built in the 1930s. Today it has been completely overhauled, refurbished and re-imagined as a sleek party vessel that accommodates 600 revellers. As an official ADE venue it is part of the leading electronic music conference and the world's biggest club festival for electronic music.
